The Method

Matter & Merit is an independent editorial guide. We purchase or acquire samples, visit studios openly when possible, and distinguish what we test from what we observe from what companies tell us. We do not accept payment for favorable coverage.

Every claim carries an evidence status: Independently Tested, Document Verified, Observed by Matter & Merit, Company-Stated, Not Disclosed, Not Assessed, or Inconclusive. We never present unsupported origin or composition claims as verified.

We do not use star ratings or universal numeric scores. Instead, we assess provenance, craft, transparency, experience, longevity, and worth—each with a written rationale. Verdicts are editorial, not algorithmic.

When we err, we correct publicly with dated entries. Companies may review factual details before publication; editorial conclusions remain ours. See our Corrections page for the full policy.

Product testing applies to the specific sample tested. Visit reviews reflect a single experience at a point in time. We state limitations explicitly rather than implying universal certainty.
